As a major local employer, UPL firmly believes in extending it’s culture of quality and service into the community. We support a range of local initiatives to enhance the lives of the young and the elderly within the local area, and some of our activities are outlined below:
Support for Pear Tree School – A Physical and Sensory Specialist School
Pear Tree School is an outstanding special school based in Kirkham. Ofsted have commented ” Pear Tree has become an outstandingly successful school, which continually strives to improve the provision of all its learners.” Pear Tree pupils are aged 2 to 19 which means that staff get to know the pupils very well and consider them to be part of a very large family. “Children make exceptional progress because the staff know the children very well and demonstrate this by the excellent standards of planning and teaching, tailored to the needs of each individual” Ofsted.
Pear Tree plays an active role in developing extended services for children and young people with learning difficulties and disabilities throughout Lancashire and they are the only Special School in Lancashire to also be a Children’s Centre.
For many years UPL has been actively involved in providing both financial and practical support to the school. We are involved in events that take place in the school and we also provide valuable external work experience for many of the pupils as they reach adulthood. Both UPL and Pear Tree are proud of the close partnership that has evolved over the years between the two bodies.

Support for Local Sporting Activities
UPL values the importance of teamwork and as such has been happy to support a number of local sporting activities over the years. We currently provide sports kits and provide football pitches to be used by the local YMCA Juniors team and also the Lytham Veterans team.
Support for the elderly in the community
UPL also takes a responsible interest in the welfare of the elderly in the community and we are proud to work with our local police force to support their work in this area.
